Do you want your Superyacht to beable to offer a PWC certificate to your clients that will satisfy most waterbourne authorities?
Yacht Passion
Most people don't realise that you need to set up a Superyacht as an RYA training centre to beable to offer an RYA certificated course to your clients. Having your crew qualified as RYA PWC instructors is the first step to offering safe training, but being able to follow the RYA guidelines will allow you to issue certificates (that have interpretations in English, French, Italian, German, Spanish etc) and that will satisfy most waterbourne authorities.
If this is something that interests you then the details of how to go about this process are below:
Setting up a Superyacht as an RYA training centre:-
- Read the guidance notes set out by the RYA to see if your Superyacht is suitable to become an RTE (recognised teaching establishment). Guidance notes on standards Guidance notes for Training centre standards
- Make sure you have at least one qualified RYA PWC (Personal Watercraft) instructor. Guidance notes for instructors & Principals
- Complete an 'RYA Application for recognition form' & send it to RYA HQ. Application for recognition form or email them on training@rya.org.uk
- Once the application is processed an RYA inspector will be sent out to you, the inspection process normally takes 1 full-day (please see the guidance notes & inspection report form for what they will be looking at). Inspection report form Please be aware that if you are having instructor training run onboard your superyacht prior to your inspection then it may be possible for the course moderator to complete the inspection the day after the course (assuming permission from the RYA has been granted and no centre set-up advice has been sought from him/her during the period prior to the inspection) - see the bottom of this page for information about instructor training for your staff/crew etc.
- The inspector will then advise you as to whether or not he/she will be recommending you for recognition, if there are any concerns then an 'action plan' will be issued with a list of requirements/ 'jobs' that must be completed prior to recognition being granted.
- The inspector will then return to the UK and send the inspection report form into RYA HQ, assuming a positive outcome, the RYA will then send you your recognition paperwork at which time you can start offering the 'RYA Introduction to PW safety' course to your guests
- ~Qualifying the staff/crew/deckhands to teach the 'RYA Introduction to PW safety' course:-
Option 1 - Instructor training onboard your Superyacht (at your location):-
If you would like to get a group (maximum 6 instructor students per course) trained up to become RYA PWC instructors then you are able to employ an RYA PWC Trainer to come to you (the Trainer will need to seek approval to run the training from the RYA directly and/or a RYA RTC before confirming their atendance). This Trainer can also run an RYA PWC competency course prior to the instructor course if required to meet the instructor course pre-requisites. On the last day of the 3 day instructor course a second trainer must be bought in to 'moderate' the course.
Option 2 - UK training:-
If you have a smaller group/single person it may be more cost effective/easier to send them to a UK training centre that offers the RYA PWC instructor course (average course fees are approx £350-450-00pp). If this is more appealing then visit http://www.rya.org.uk/ for more information.
