JOINING INSTRUCTIONS:- 

RYA PERSONAL WATERCRAFT INSTRUCTOR CONVERSION COURSE

Location:- Jetski Safaris, Salterns Marina, 40 Salterns Way, Poole, Dorset BH14 8JR - please meet us in the Salterns Hotel bar at 9:30am (parking is outside the hotel). 


Course pre-requisites:

Certificates:- RYA Powerboat instructor certificate, RYA PWC competency certificate, Valid first aid certificate (approved by RYA). If you are an RYA member, please also bring your membership number. 

Experience:- 5 years part -time or 1 season full time PWC handling experience. 


Course joining  information:- 

The aim of this course is to provide you with the skills necessary to teach the RYA Personal watercraft certificate of competence course. 

Outline Program:

AM -     Kit requirements, Course planning & preparation

              Teaching points for sessions

              On-water practice of running sessions

Lunch - Prep route plan (basic navigation)

PM -      On-water practice of running sessions

               Recognition/ Certification


Course date & timings:- Tuesday 5th April 2011. 09:30am start. 


Assessment:- During your PW instructor conversion course, you will be assessed on the following skills:-

Theory - Weather, tides, basic navigation, safety, background of the sport, knowledge of the RYA PWC course syllabus. 

Practical - Personal skills on both PWC (and powerboat if applicable), safety awareness, group control and management. 

Teaching - Communication, briefing, debriefing, 'soft' skills, preparation and presentations. 

Pre-course planning:

It is important that you prepare for the course as fully as possible to make sure you get maximum benefit from the day. To help you, please consider working through the following tasks:

- Revise the syllabus and write down session headings

- Read & understand G35 (RYA PWC handbook) 

- Make 'rough notes' on how you would put a PW course program together

- Make 'rough notes' on what you would include in each of the sessions

- Consider the amount of time you think it will take to put 6 students through each one of the syllabus sessions. 

- Read the content and look at the links on the 'PWC Instruction' page of this website

- 'Gem up' on different types of PWC (visit www.brp.com www.yamaha-motor.co.uk www.kawasaki.com for more information)
