
Considering or preparing to attend a PWC (jetski) instructor course?
Please find below some useful hints and tips to make sure you are best prepared:-

RYA PW Instructor Course pre-requisites:- PWC competency certificate, First Aid certificate, good all round PW handling skills.
RYA PW Instructor Conversion pre-requisites:- PW competency certificate, First Aid certificate, Powerboat instructor certificate, good all round PW handling skills.
Knowledge preparation:-
It is advisable to have a good background knowledge in the following areas:
- Tides - How tides occur. Read & interpret a tide table. Understand Springs & Neaps, why they occur and what effect they have on us. Wind with and wind against tide conditions.
- Weather - Know where to find sources of weather information. Read, understand & interpret a MetOffice inshore forecast. Understand the Beaufort wind scale.
- Navigation - Charts - colours, drying heights (chart datum), symbols, buoyage. Measuring distance & bearings. Beable to plot a basic course/passage plan. What is compass variation & how do we apply it?
- IRPCS (Road rules) - Understand and apply the basic rules as detailed in the RYA PWC handbook.
